SEOUL, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's online shopping transactions rose 7.3 percent from a year earlier to 25.1 trillion won (18.3 billion U.S. dollars) in July, led by cars and mobile devices, according to the Ministry of Data and Statistics.
The online sales of cars and car accessories jumped 31.1 percent amid surging online purchases of models from the U.S. automaker Tesla.
Online demand for mobile devices soared 37.5 percent due to the launch of new smartphones, while those for food and beverages, food delivery services, and home appliances rose in single figures.
Online transactions of cosmetics, farm goods and computers posted a double-digit expansion, but those for clothing and sports items retreated in single digits.
Online transactions in e-coupon services added 5.4 percent amid the still robust trend to provide gifts such as coffee and cake through e-coupons.
Shopping through smartphones, tablets and other mobile gadgets climbed 6.4 percent over the year to 19.57 trillion won in July, accounting for 78 percent of the total online shopping. ■
