PYONGYANG, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- The United States has been pursuing an "invariable hostile policy" toward the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), a DPRK Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Monday.

In a press statement carried by the official Korean Central News Agency, the spokesperson said the U.S. stance of confrontation with the DPRK has recently become more obvious.

The U.S. administration is aiming to infringe on the sovereignty, political system and security interests of the DPRK through a "human rights" smear campaign and military threat, according to the statement.

"Manifested in its stand of confrontation that gets clearer in terms of rhetoric and behavior," the U.S. hostility toward the DPRK has become a "root cause" of pushing up the tensions on the Korean Peninsula to a more dangerous level and escalating the structural instability of the region, said the spokesperson.

"The U.S. policy toward the DPRK never changes and there will be no change in the future," said the statement. "The DPRK will be more resolute and clear in its exercise of sovereignty to defend the supreme interests of its national security."
