SYDNEY, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Solomon Islands Prime Minister Matthew Wale faces his first no-confidence motion after Minister of Home Affairs Manasseh Maelanga filed a notice of motion on Saturday afternoon, the Solomon Star reported.
Maelanga is part of the Government for Reform, Empowerment, Accountability and Transformation (GREAT) Coalition under the leadership of Wale.
Wale was sworn in as the Solomon Islands' prime minister in May 2026 after he was elected by members of Parliament, succeeding Jeremiah Manele, who was removed from office earlier in the month after Parliament passed a motion of no-confidence.
The Solomon Star quoted Clerk to Parliament Jefferson Halu as saying that the notice will lapse on Sept. 6 and it can be moved thereafter if Parliament, which is currently on adjournment and will resume on Sept. 7, accepts it.
This means that the motion of no-confidence can be moved when it is put on notice during that week, according to the media. ■
