KABUL, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces have arrested two individuals on charges of illegally felling trees and trafficking timber in eastern Kunar province, the Ministry of Interior Affairs announced in a statement on Saturday.

The suspects were apprehended while engaged in deforestation and timber smuggling across multiple districts of the province, according to the statement.

The ministry underscored that no individual holds the right to unlawfully cut down trees and hunt wild animals across the country.

In a decisive step to accelerate these protective measures, the Afghan government has established a specialized security unit to enforce environmental regulations and safeguard the forests.
