JAKARTA, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- A cultural exchange tour was held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Thursday, showcasing the rich history, traditions, and legacy of Guangfu culture, a regional culture from southern China, through Cantonese opera, stand-up comedy, and a flash mob.

At the event, titled "From Zhuji Lane to the World," opera performers brought the ancient stories of Zhuji Lane to life through melodic singing and stylized movements. Located in Shaoguan city, south China's Guangdong Province, Zhuji Lane is celebrated as one of the best-preserved ancient alleys dating back to the Song Dynasty.

Adding a contemporary touch, a stand-up comedian shared traditional Cantonese customs, linguistic humor, and moving tales of Cantonese emigrants who crossed the seas to build new lives abroad.

Beyond the theater, performers staged a lively flash mob at a historic square in Jakarta's old town, drawing enthusiastic crowds of local residents. Spectators captured the impromptu performance on their phones, with several joining the artists in dance.

Que Sumei, deputy director of the Shaoguan-based Nanling International Communication Center, said the tour brought Cantonese culture to Indonesia while strengthening emotional ties among overseas Chinese communities.

She expressed hope that culture could continue to serve as a bridge, tracing the journey from departing Zhuji Lane to returning to it, and that these enduring bonds of friendship would flourish through ongoing exchanges.
