BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Brunei's Consumer Price Index (CPI) for July rose 0.02 percent from a year earlier, driven mainly by a 1.2 percent increase in the food and non-alcoholic beverages index, local media reported on Friday.
The Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (DEPS) said the non-food index declined 0.3 percent. On a month-on-month basis, the CPI fell 0.2 percent from June, with both the non-food index and the food and non-alcoholic beverages index posting decreases, according to reports.
The CPI measures changes in the prices of a fixed basket of goods and services purchased by consumers over a specified period and is compiled monthly to track changes in consumer prices, according to the DEPS. ■
