TOKYO, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Japan's unemployment rate fell to 2.4 percent in July from 2.5 percent in the previous month, government data showed Friday.
The number of employed people stood at 68.31 million in July, down 0.2 percent from the previous month on a seasonally adjusted basis, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said.
Among the unemployed, 380,000 had been dismissed, down 7.3 percent from the previous month, while 750,000 had voluntarily left their jobs, unchanged from the previous month.
The number of people newly seeking work fell 8.2 percent to 450,000, according to the ministry.
Meanwhile, separate data from the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare showed that the average job availability ratio in July stood at 1.18, unchanged from the previous month, meaning there were 118 job openings for every 100 job seekers.
By industry, new job offers declined in six of the 11 sectors, with accommodation and food services leading the decline at 10.7 percent, followed by wholesale and retail trade at 7.3 percent, according to the ministry. ■
