ISLAMABAD, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Four militants were killed in an intelligence-based operation by the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of the police in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, officials said Thursday.
The operation was conducted by a CTD team in the Mirak Chori area of the Peshawar region following intelligence about militants allegedly planning attacks on security forces and government property, the CTD said in a statement.
The militants opened fire on security personnel, triggering an exchange of fire that lasted around 20 to 25 minutes, according to the statement.
Three assault rifles, a pistol, a hand grenade and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants, it added.
Authorities said investigations and a search operation for the fleeing suspects were underway. ■
