NEW DELHI, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- At least six people went missing, while 12 others managed to swim to safety after a boat carrying them capsized on Wednesday in the eastern Indian state of Bihar, local media reports said.
The boat capsized in the river Ganges in Bhagalpur district, about 232 km east of Patna, the capital city of Bihar.
Local media quoted officials as saying that there were 18 laborers on board. The laborers were crossing the river on the boat to go to work when the tragic incident took place, the report said.
Following the incident, the police and disaster response force personnel rushed to the spot to carry out a search and rescue operation. ■
