WELLINGTON, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand's gender pay gap stood at 5.3 percent in the June 2026 quarter, little changed from 5.2 percent a year earlier, official data showed on Wednesday.
The figure followed a 3-percentage-point decline in the previous year, Stats NZ labor market spokesperson Abby Johnston said in a statement.
The gender pay gap compares the median hourly earnings of men and women from wages and salaries. A gap of zero would indicate no difference in median earnings between men and women, according to the statistics department.
Median hourly earnings from wages and salaries rose 2.7 percent to 35.96 NZ dollars (about 21.43 U.S. dollars) in the year to June 2026, the department said, adding that for men, median hourly earnings increased 3.6 percent to 36.92 NZ dollars, while those for women rose 3.4 percent to 34.95 NZ dollars.
Median weekly income from all sources was 962 NZ dollars in the June 2026 quarter, compared with 959 NZ dollars a year earlier, Stats NZ said. ■
