BISHKEK, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Board of the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan has decided to keep its key interest rate unchanged at 12 percent, the bank's press service said on Tuesday.

Since the beginning of 2026, consumer prices have risen by 7.3 percent, while annual inflation has reached 11.7 percent. Rising fuel and lubricant prices, as well as higher food prices amid volatility in global food markets, have been among the main drivers of inflation.

At the same time, economic activity remains strong, with real GDP growing 11.1 percent in January-July 2026. Growth has been supported by high investment activity, particularly in construction, as well as increased domestic consumption.

The National Bank said persistent external inflationary risks require maintaining tight monetary conditions. Keeping the key rate at its current level will help contain secondary inflationary effects and create conditions for a sustainable decline in inflation over the medium term.
