Heroin, stimulant tablets seized in central Myanmar

YANGON, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar police have seized 12.21 kg of heroin, 366,000 stimulant tablets and other drugs in Mandalay region, the state-owned daily Myanma Alinn reported on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotics police searched vehicles in Chanayethazan township in Mandalay region on Aug. 19 and confiscated 1.21 kg of heroin, the report said.

Following the initial seizure, police recovered 2.5 kg of crude opium in Chanmyathazi township on Aug. 19. The next day, they confiscated another 11 kg of heroin, 366,000 stimulant tablets, 48 kg of raw opium and 12.5 kg of crude opium.

A total of five suspects were arrested in connection with the cases, it added.

The suspects have been charged under the country's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, it said.
