MANILA, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos on Tuesday pushed for locally made electric vehicles (EVs), starting with an all-Filipino electric tricycle, local media reported.
According to the Philippine News Agency, Marcos visited auto parts maker MD Juan Enterprises in Caloocan City, north of Manila, to assess its EV production capacity. The company produces metal parts for vintage and civilian jeeps.
He said domestic EV production could cut fuel imports and create jobs for transport workers.
The government has been promoting e-mobility to modernize transport and boost local manufacturing, according to the reports. ■
