MANILA, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- A majority of adult Filipinos, or 72 percent, feel safe in their homes and communities, according to a survey released Tuesday.

The survey by OCTA Research, conducted from July 4 to 11 with 1,200 respondents, found that 68 percent are not afraid to walk alone at night, while 54 percent are not worried about robbers breaking into their homes.

However, confidence varied by region. The Visayas recorded the highest sense of neighborhood safety at 84 percent, while Metro Manila recorded the lowest at 58 percent.

Confidence in walking alone at night was highest in Balance Luzon at 72 percent and lowest in Metro Manila at 48 percent. Home security confidence was also lowest in Metro Manila at 44 percent, according to OCTA, a renowned independent private research and consulting institution in the Philippines.

OCTA said general perceptions of safety remain positive, but respondents showed more caution when considering specific personal and household security risks.
