DHAKA, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh's border security force on Monday seized 3 kg of methamphetamine in the country's southeastern Cox's Bazar district.
Acting on a tip-off, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) said in a statement that a patrol team of the paramilitary force seized the illicit substances, crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ice.
According to the statement, the drugs were concealed in three packets inside a secret compartment of a Bangladesh-bound boat on the Naf River, which separates southeastern Bangladesh from northwestern Myanmar.
It said one person was arrested, while three other suspected smugglers jumped into the river and fled toward Myanmar.
In two separate drives also on Monday along the border areas, BGB seized 450,000 illicit yaba tablets.
Against this backdrop, BGB said it has strengthened intelligence surveillance, technical monitoring, naval patrols, and special operations along the Naf River and other remote border areas to prevent drug trafficking.
The border force said its operations would continue to identify people and gangs involved in drug trafficking and bring them under the law.
Legal proceedings are underway over the seized drugs, evidence, and the detained person, it said. ■
