6.0-magnitude quake jolts Japan's Hokkaido: JMA

TOKYO, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.0 struck off Urakawa in Japan's northern prefecture of Hokkaido, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said on Sunday.

According to the weather agency, the temblor occurred at around 10:45 p.m. local time at a depth of about 40 km, measuring 4 on Japan's 0-to-7 seismic-intensity scale in the hardest-hit areas in Hokkaido.

The quake's epicenter was located at a latitude of 41.8 degrees north and a longitude of 142.9 degrees east.

No tsunami warning has been issued.
