MANILA, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Philippine House of Representatives is drafting a measure that would impose a total ban on social media and online gaming platforms for children aged 13 and below, while regulating use by those aged 14 to 17, local media reported on Sunday.
According to the reports, Representative Roman Romulo, chair of the House Committee on Basic Education and Culture, said those under 13 would be barred from such platforms, while users aged 14 to 17 would face regulation with certain features banned.
Romulo said all platforms seeking to operate in the Philippines must establish a local presence or face blocking by the Department of Information and Communications Technology. Congress also plans to create a classification board to monitor online games accessible to young players. ■
