HANOI, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms, whirlwinds and lightning on Wednesday and Thursday left four people dead and another injured in several Vietnamese localities, the Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority said Friday.
Of the four fatalities, three were killed by lightning strikes, including one in the central province of Ha Tinh and two in the northern province of Ninh Binh. Another person was swept away by floodwaters in the central province of Nghe An.
Fifteen houses had their roofs blown off in the central province of Lam Dong, while three houses in the central province of Quang Ngai were affected by landslides.
Local authorities have mobilized forces to deal with the aftermath and are continuing to assess the damage. ■
