KABUL, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- A police officer was killed following a confrontation and exchange of fire with two armed robbers in the western Afghan province of Herat on Thursday, provincial police spokesman Sayed Massoud Hussaini confirmed.
The deadly clash took place inside a barbershop in the provincial capital, Herat City, after the two armed robbers entered the premises to rob the customers inside. The police officer, who served as deputy chief of Police District 10, resisted the robbers and ultimately sacrificed his life, the official said.
In a swift response, police personnel identified and arrested both perpetrators, Hussaini added. ■
