NEW DELHI, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- At least two workers were killed and one injured after earth caved in near an under-construction hospital site in the northern Indian state of Punjab, police said Friday.
The incident occurred Thursday night while basement digging was underway at a depth of about 15 to 20 feet on Airport Road in Mohali district, about 18 km west of Chandigarh, the capital city of Punjab.
"The digging had loosened the earth, and a mud wall caved in, trapping three laborers," a local official said, adding that they were pulled out and taken to a local hospital, where two were declared dead and the third remains under treatment.
A private hospital building is being built at the site. ■
