Philippine poverty rate falls to record low of 9.7 pct

MANILA, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Philippines recorded a poverty incidence rate of 9.7 percent in 2025, the lowest in history, according to the Department of Economy, Planning and Development on Friday.

The poverty threshold was set at 14,634 pesos (around 237 U.S. dollars) in monthly income for a family of five, with the number of poor Filipinos falling from 17.5 million in 2023 to 11 million in 2025, according to the department.

Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority showed that nominal incomes increased by about 22 percent across all income classes in the country between 2023 and 2025.
