YANGON, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- A completion ceremony for a model village project promoting poverty reduction, funded by the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Special Fund 2024, was held in Myanmar's Ayeyarwady region on Thursday.

The project, designed to scale up village-level poverty reduction among LMC countries in the delta region, was implemented in Ohnpinsu village, Nyaungdon township, Ayeyarwady region.

Speaking at the ceremony, Shen Dan, charge d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, said the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Fund had supported Myanmar in implementing several "small but beautiful" rural poverty reduction projects, achieving positive results.

China will continue to deepen practical cooperation with Myanmar within the Lancang-Mekong framework to promote greater achievements in building a China-Myanmar community with a shared future, Shen added.

The Myanmar side expressed gratitude to China for supporting the poverty reduction model village project and looks forward to further deepening cooperation with China in areas such as agricultural development and rural poverty reduction.

More than 300 people attended the event, including officials from the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, Myanmar's Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development and the Ayeyarwady Region government, as well as villagers.

The project, implemented between 2024 and 2026, has benefited 726 villagers from 180 households and provided valuable lessons for rural development in other parts of Myanmar.
