JAKARTA, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia and Uruguay agreed Thursday to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, food security and renewable energy as the two countries mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
The agreement was reached during a meeting in Jakarta between Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Christiawan Nasir and his Uruguayan counterpart Valeria Csukasi, along with senior officials from both countries.
The two sides stressed the importance of strengthening business-to-business ties and expressed hope that the first round of trade negotiations between Indonesia and the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) could begin soon.
Uruguay, which currently holds Mercosur's rotating presidency, pledged support for closer cooperation between Indonesia and the South American trade bloc.
The two countries also discussed cooperation in agriculture, food security and renewable energy, with both sides seeking to strengthen economic ties and enhance food and energy resilience.
The meeting concluded with the launch of a commemorative stamp featuring traditional crafts from the two countries to mark six decades of diplomatic relations. ■
