SYDNEY, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- A teenage boy has been hospitalized after he was stabbed at a western Sydney school on Thursday morning.
Police said that emergency services were called to reports that a 14-year-old boy had been injured at a school in Granville, 18 km west of central Sydney, around 10:15 a.m. local time.
Officers arrived and were told that the boy suffered a cut to his abdomen. He was treated at the scene by ambulance paramedics before being taken to the hospital in a stable condition.
A second 14-year-old boy was subsequently arrested and a knife was seized for examination.
The police statement said that officers remained on scene working with staff and all other students were reported to be safe. It said that officers were waiting to speak to everyone involved.
Sydney newspaper the Daily Telegraph reported that the incident triggered a lockdown at the school. ■
