TOKYO, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher on Thursday with buying spread across a wide range of sectors as a pullback in Japanese bond yields helped ease investor concerns.

The benchmark 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 890.37 points, or 1.36 percent, from Wednesday at 66,216.79.

The broader Topix index, meanwhile, finished 47.42 points, or 1.18 percent, higher at 4,059.73.

On the top-tier Prime Market, transportation equipment, electric power and gas, and pharmaceutical issues were notable gainers.

A retreat in 10-year Japanese government bond yields gave a lift to previously lagging sectors such as automobile shares, while medical and service-related issues also drew buying interest.

Bargain-hunting also supported the market after the Nikkei had shed around 3,900 points over the previous two sessions, analysts said, though some artificial intelligence- and semiconductor-related shares came under selling pressure amid position adjustments.
