SYDNEY, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- A child has died and a woman has been hospitalized with serious burns following a house fire north of Sydney on Thursday.
Police said that emergency services were deployed to the fire in the Lake Macquarie region, 95 km north of Sydney, around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday and arrived to find a house well alight.
Officers were told at the scene that the house was inhabited by a woman aged in her 80s and two children.
One of the children was located during a search of the property and was unable to be revived. The other child was not injured.
The woman was taken to hospital in a serious condition with burns.
Police said that a teenage boy who attempted to gain entry to the home was also hospitalized with leg injuries. ■
