HANOI, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Department for Roads of Vietnam under the Ministry of Construction has asked investors and operators of roadside rest areas to install and put into operation electric vehicle (EV) charging systems before Jan. 1, 2027, local media VnEconomy reported Wednesday.
Local authorities and businesses were also asked to review implementation progress and submit reports by Aug. 25, 2026.
Under the national technical regulation on roadside rest areas, at least 10 percent of parking spaces at rest areas must be available for EV charging.
Given the growing adoption of EVs, the department encouraged investors and operators to assess actual demand and consider providing more charging spaces than the regulatory minimum, the report said. ■
