JAKARTA, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's Batam city exported 3,678 tonnes of fishery products worth 125 billion rupiah (about 7 million U.S. dollars) to Singapore from January to May 2026, reaching 53 percent of its annual export volume target, a local official said Wednesday.
Yudi Admajianto, head of the Batam Fisheries Agency, said the city has set a target of exporting 7,000 tonnes of fishery products worth around 280 billion rupiah (about 16 million dollars) in 2026.
The exports included grouper, snapper, Spanish mackerel, vannamei shrimp, cuttlefish, crab and lobster. Most of the products were caught by traditional fishermen in waters around Batam, including Belakangpadang, Bulang and Galang.
Batam exported 6,406 tonnes of fishery products in 2025. The local government has provided fishing equipment and boat engines to boost fishermen's productivity and help achieve its 2026 export target.
Batam is the largest city in the Riau Islands province of Indonesia, located just 20 kilometers (about 12 miles) south of Singapore. It is a major industrial hub, free-trade zone, and a busy maritime gateway known for shopping, seafood, and short international ferry links. ■
