ISLAMABAD, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's exports increased 10.4 percent year-on-year to 2.96 billion U.S. dollars in July 2026, the first month of the new fiscal year, according to provisional trade data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Exports also rose 32.11 percent month-on-month from 2.24 billion dollars in June, the data showed on Tuesday.

Imports, meanwhile, increased 18.9 percent year-on-year to 6.94 billion dollars in July, compared with 5.84 billion dollars in the same month last year. On a monthly basis, imports edged up 0.59 percent from 6.90 billion dollars in June.

As a result, Pakistan's trade deficit widened to 3.98 billion dollars in July, compared with 3.15 billion dollars in the corresponding month of 2025.

Knitwear was the country's largest export item in July, valued at around 534 million dollars, followed by readymade garments and bedwear.

Among major imports, electrical machinery and apparatus topped the list, followed by crude petroleum and petroleum products.

The PBS said the figures are provisional and may be revised after the inclusion of additional customs data.
