TOKYO, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks tumbled on Wednesday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index plunging more than 3 percent, dragged down by elevated bond yields, a selloff in technology shares, and reignited uncertainty over the situation in the Middle East.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 2,134.31 points, or 3.16 percent, from Tuesday at 65,326.42.

The broader Topix index, meanwhile, finished 127.91 points, or 3.09 percent, lower at 4,012.31.

On the top-tier Prime Market, nonferrous metal, glass and ceramics product, and machinery issues were notable decliners.

Leading the selloff were artificial intelligence- and data center-related issues, which tracked overnight losses among their U.S. counterparts, as shares of high-growth companies came under pressure amid a global upward trend in bond yields.
