KABUL, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Personnel of the counter-narcotics police discovered 250 kg of opium-type illegal drugs and arrested six smugglers in Panjshir province, eastern Afghanistan, on Tuesday, spokesman for the provincial police office Haqmal Saad confirmed.
According to the official, the alleged drug smugglers were attempting to traffic the contraband via two vehicles to the neighboring Badakhshan province. However, police, acting on a tip-off, intercepted the vehicles and seized the illicit material.
All six drug smugglers will be handed over to the judiciary after the completion of the preliminary investigation, the official asserted. ■
