WELLINGTON, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Petrol and diesel prices in New Zealand fell for a third consecutive month from June to July, while domestic and international airfares recorded sharp monthly increases, official figures showed on Monday.
Petrol prices fell 5.7 percent, while diesel prices dropped 12.1 percent, bringing both fuel prices below March levels, although they remained higher than in February, Stats NZ said in a statement.
In the 12 months to July, petrol prices rose 15.1 percent and diesel prices increased 34.9 percent, said the statistics department.
Domestic airfares rose 20.7 percent in July from June, the largest monthly increase since monthly data collection began in 2015, the department said, noting that international airfares increased 10.9 percent.
Annually, domestic and international airfares rose 14 percent and 3.5 percent, respectively, in the year to July 2026.
Food prices increased 1.9 percent in the year to July, the smallest annual rise since December 2024, Stats NZ prices and deflators spokesperson Nicola Growden was quoted as saying. ■
