SINGAPORE, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Singapore has launched several initiatives to strengthen maritime safety, improve operational capabilities and support the safe adoption of new technologies, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said on Monday.

The initiatives, announced at the opening of the 13th Singapore Safety@Sea Week, include a new near miss reporting system, an integrated port operations command system and trials of autonomous and remote marine operations, the MPA said in a statement.

The Singapore Near Miss Reporting System, launched by the National Maritime Safety at Sea Council and Singapore Shipping Association, will provide sea-space users with a confidential online channel to report incidents and share safety lessons.

The MPA also announced the operationalization of its Integrated Port Operations Command, Control and Communications system, developed with the Defense Science and Technology Agency and ST Engineering, to give officers a real-time view of port activities and risks.

Separately, the MPA signed a memorandum of understanding with marine technology company Ocean Infinity to test autonomous and remote marine operations in Singapore port waters.
