KABUL, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday voiced profound regret over the death of a Tajik woman in cross-border gunfire, attributing the tragedy to "disruptive and opportunistic elements."
In a statement posted on X by the ministry spokesperson Abdul Qahar Balkhi, the ministry said the incident occurred on Thursday evening and claimed the life of a resident of Dashtak village in the Darvoz district of Tajikistan's Badakhshan Autonomous Region.
Preliminary accounts indicate the fatal shot originated from the Afghan side of the border. Balkhi noted that certain opportunistic actors have recently sought to foment instability in parts of Badakhshan province, apparently with the aim of undermining regional security and eroding mutual trust between the Afghan government and Tajikistan.
The ministry reaffirmed Kabul's unwavering commitment to safeguarding security and stability, upholding the principles of good-neighborly relations, and fully respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states.
It stressed that Afghanistan will not permit any party to exploit its territory to generate disorder, destabilize the region, or threaten the security of neighboring countries. ■
