SYDNEY, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Mastercard, a global payments technology company, is facing a reported disruption affecting card payments for some Australian customers, with Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CommBank) citing a "global Mastercard issue" on Saturday.

Shoppers across several Australian states have reported problems making card payments, including issues with Apple payments, cash withdrawals and Mastercard travel cards, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported.

Downdetector, a website that allows users to report service outages, recorded more than 1,700 reports of Mastercard issues at 3 p.m. local time, with the most commonly reported problems involving funds transfers and mobile banking, the ABC reported.

CommBank advised customers whose payments were declined to insert their cards and select "savings" to pay via eftpos, an electronic payment system for debit cards.

The cause and scope of the reported disruption were not immediately clear.
