MANILA, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- A young laborer died in a 17-meter-deep well in a village in the northern Philippines, local media Manila Bulletin reported on Wednesday.

The 16-year-old victim, a resident of Pinukpuk town on Luzon island in the northern Philippines, was trapped for nearly four hours inside the well and was found dead when retrieved on Tuesday.

According to local police, the young laborer was finishing work inside the well when a power interruption caused the blower supplying air into the confined space to stop.

Rescuers worked for several hours to retrieve the victim from the well. He was declared dead at the scene, local police chief Capt. Tyrone John Balanay said.

The loss of the blower's air supply may have led to the victim's death, but the exact cause has yet to be established, according to a local police officer.
