HANOI, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam has begun construction on its largest and most advanced domestically built anti-submarine frigate to date in the central city of Da Nang, local media Tuoi Tre reported Tuesday.
Attending the groundbreaking ceremony, Deputy Minister of National Defense Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hoai Nam highlighted the military's determination to study and develop advanced defense equipment independently, according to the report.
The multi-purpose anti-submarine frigate is designed and built by Vietnam, marking a major development in the country's defense and military shipbuilding industries.
The project underscores Vietnam's pursuit of a defense industry that is autonomous, self-strengthening, self-reliant, dual-use and modern, the report added. ■
