KUALA LUMPUR, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's services sector grew 11.2 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, with revenue reaching 714.7 billion ringgit (174.72 billion U.S. dollars), according to official data released Wednesday.
The sector's growth was supported by resilient domestic demand and stronger trade activity, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement.
Higher household spending and increased mobility during festive celebrations and the mid-year school holidays boosted activity in wholesale and retail trade, food and beverage, accommodation, and transportation and storage. The gains also benefited related consumer and tourism services.
Financing and insurance activities supported transactions by businesses and households, while the expansion of data centers and telecommunications contributed to demand for digital services.
On a quarter-on-quarter basis, services revenue rose 4.9 percent from the first quarter.
Meanwhile, e-commerce income reached 338 billion ringgit in the second quarter, up 2.9 percent year-on-year and 1 percent quarter-on-quarter.
DOSM said the sector's broad-based performance reflected resilient domestic demand and sustained activity across consumer, business, and digital services, providing a stronger base for growth amid continued external uncertainties. ■
