DHAKA, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh's inflation eased to 8.32 percent in July from 9.16 percent in June, according to the latest official statistics.
The consumer price index, released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics on Wednesday, showed that food inflation fell sharply to 7.16 percent in July, the first month of the current fiscal year (July 2026-June 2027). In June, food inflation was 8.60 percent.
Inflation for non-food items edged down to 9.28 percent in July from 9.61 percent in June, the data showed.
The country's average inflation reached 8.89 percent in the last fiscal year 2025-26 (July 2025-June 2026).
In the previous 2024-25 fiscal year, overall inflation was 9.43 percent.
The Bangladeshi parliament on June 30 passed a record 9.38-trillion-taka (nearly 77 billion U.S. dollars) national budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
In line with the budget, the Bangladeshi government aims to reduce inflation to 7.5 percent and raise GDP growth to 6.5 percent in the current fiscal year. ■
