112 rescued after ferry catches fire off Indonesia's Lombok

JAKARTA, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- A total of 112 people were rescued after a passenger ferry, the Putri Yasmin, caught fire in waters off Lombok island, Indonesia's West Nusa Tenggara province, on Wednesday morning, local authorities said.

A local official told media that a nearby ferry had evacuated 36 people and brought them back to Bali, while a search and rescue agency vessel evacuated 59 people. Additionally, a navy vessel picked up another 17 people.

An official in Padangbai told local media that the ferry was carrying 114 passengers and 17 crew members, based on the manifest. There were no immediate reports of casualties among the passengers and crew.

The Putri Yasmin was sailing from Bali to the adjacent island of Lombok when the fire broke out. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
