BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Brunei has set a target of attracting around 1 million tourists and generating approximately 630 million Brunei dollars (about 493.11 million U.S. dollars) in tourism revenue during Visit Brunei Year 2027, a government minister said on Monday.
Speaking during a Legislative Council meeting, Haji Abdul Manaf Metussin, Brunei's coordinating minister of economic policies and minister of economy, trade and industry, said around 400,000 tourist arrivals were recorded during the first six months of 2026 through air, sea and land routes.
The figure represents a 7.8 percent increase compared with the same period in 2025.
Haji Abdul Manaf said the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry continues to focus on tourism development in line with the Brunei Economic Blueprint and the Brunei Tourism Industry Roadmap 2024-2035.
He stressed that Brunei's tourism strategy is not simply about increasing the number of visitors. A more strategic goal is to develop high-value, high-return tourism, where visitors stay longer, spend more, use more local products and services, and thus ensure that economic value stays and circulates within the country. ■
