KABUL, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Construction work on a cement production project with an investment of 143 million U.S. dollars has started in Afghanistan's western Herat province, the official media Bakhtar News Agency reported on Monday.
According to Bakhtar, construction of the cement project in Zenda Jan district is expected to be completed within two years, while its first phase will have a daily production capacity of 4,000 tons of cement.
The project is expected to help boost domestic cement production and reduce Afghanistan's reliance on imported cement, the report said.
Officials have called on all investors and private companies to play a more active role in the country's economic and industrial development. ■
