JAKARTA, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia closed the Mount Bromo tourist area in East Java to all tourist activities on Saturday night as a wildfire continues to spread, the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park authority said late Saturday.
The closure took effect at 10 p.m. local time on Saturday and will remain in place until further notice.
The fire, which broke out on Monday, has affected approximately 170 hectares.
The park authority said the closure is aimed at facilitating firefighting operations and ensuring visitor safety. Visitors who purchased tickets for the closure period through the online booking system may reschedule their visits or request refunds.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, and no casualties have been reported.
Mount Bromo is located within a national park in East Java province and is one of Indonesia's best-known tourist destinations. ■
