ISLAMABAD, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's security forces killed seven militants during an intelligence-based operation in the country's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the military said on Saturday.
The operation was conducted in Hangu district on Friday following reports of the presence of militants, the Inter-Services Public Relations, the military's media wing, said in a statement.
During the operation, the militants took refuge inside a mosque, the statement said, adding that an intense exchange of fire followed, in which seven militants were killed.
A Pakistani army captain was also killed during the exchange of fire, according to the statement.
The military said weapons and ammunition were recovered from the killed militants, who were allegedly involved in terrorist activities targeting security forces, law enforcement agencies and civilians. ■
