KATHMANDU, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- The bodies of five people believed to be climbers who went missing in an avalanche on Mount Yalung Ri in Nepal nearly nine months ago have been found, police said on Friday.
The bodies were discovered at the base camp of the 5,630-meter peak in the Rolwaling Range of Dolakha District after melting snow exposed the remains, prompting local residents to alert the authorities.
"The bodies are believed to be those of the five climbers who went missing in the avalanche on Nov. 3, last year, but their identities will be confirmed only after they are recovered and examined," Santosh Kumar Khadka, spokesperson for the District Police Office in Dolakha, told Xinhua.
A police team was sent to the site by helicopter on Friday, but adverse weather prevented the recovery of the bodies.
"The bodies could not be retrieved because of poor weather conditions. They will be brought back as soon as the weather improves," Khadka said. ■
