SYDNEY, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Solomon Islands Prime Minister Matthew Wale on Wednesday reaffirmed that his government would remain firmly committed to the one-China principle, saying it forms the basis of the Pacific island country's relations with China.
"Our relations with the People's Republic of China remain important to our development. This government reaffirms its continued commitment to the one-China principle, which is the basis of our bilateral relationship," Wale told parliament.
According to a statement issued by the Solomon Islands Prime Minister's Office, Wale said the government's foreign policy was guided by consistency, mutual respect and the delivery of tangible benefits to Solomon Islanders.
He said the Solomon Islands would continue to engage constructively with all partners while maintaining principled and consistent positions in its international relations. ■
