NEW DELHI, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in ongoing floods in India's northeastern state of Assam has risen to 94 and five people remain missing, officials said Thursday.
According to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, 2,459 villages across 25 districts were hit, and 1,172,504 people were affected due to floods in the state.
The authorities have set up 227 relief camps where 75,710 people have taken shelter, and 1,901 relief distribution centers in the affected districts.
The chief minister said floods have fully damaged 3,971 residential houses and another 13,535 houses have suffered partial damage.
Although flood waters have begun to recede, the Central Water Commission said the Dhansiri River is flowing above the danger level.
Floods are an annual occurrence in Assam during the monsoon season. ■
