BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Brunei's Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Mohammed Riza Haji Mohd Yunos has outlined the country's strategic vision for the maritime sector, saying the sultanate does not need to become the world's largest maritime nation but should strive to be among the most trusted.
Delivering the keynote address at the opening of the Brunei Darussalam Maritime Week 2026 in the capital on Thursday, the minister said trust in governance, safety standards and reliable maritime services will be key to the nation's long-term success.
Emphasizing the significance of this year's theme, "Powering Maritime Excellence: Safe Seas, Thriving Economy, Future Ready People," the minister said these elements form an interconnected cycle where safe seas generate confidence, confidence attracts investment, and investment creates meaningful opportunities for the nation's populace.
Held from Aug. 6 to Aug. 9, the forum features a diverse array of speakers, including regional and international industry experts, who share their valuable knowledge and perspectives on critical maritime issues. ■
