BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Brunei's Ministry of Development has identified 17,526 hectares of new land with the potential to be developed as part of efforts to create a more conducive investment environment and support the country's long-term economic growth.
Speaking during the second session of the Legislative Council meeting for 2026 on Wednesday, Brunei's Minister of Development Haji Muhammad Juanda Abdul Rashid said the ministry continues to provide land, infrastructure and supporting facilities to facilitate investors in establishing and expanding their businesses in the sultanate.
The minister said that of the 17,526 hectares identified, 3,324 hectares have been designated for the transport sector to strengthen Brunei's logistics capacity.
The planned developments include land for the expansion of Muara Port as well as freight road networks aimed at improving trade connectivity and facilitating the movement of goods.
The minister also highlighted measures to make investment and business activities more attractive through new land policies.
He said the ministry has introduced the government land lease program, a new policy that offers identified government land for long-term lease to support sustainable mixed-use developments. ■
