YANGON, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's Department of Fisheries has urged fish and shrimp farmers nationwide to take preventive measures against potential flooding of aquaculture ponds amid heavy rains and rising river levels, the state-owned daily The Mirror reported on Thursday.

The department, under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, advised farmers to reinforce pond embankments, particularly in low-lying and vulnerable areas, using sandbags and other protective materials to reduce the risk of damage, the report said.

The department also called on farmers to closely monitor weather warnings and maintain communication channels to report unusual situations promptly. In the event of severe flooding, farmers were advised to seek assistance from nearby fisheries offices, it added.
